Aro
Aro is one of three vampires who lead the Volturi. He is widely known as the overall leader of the Volturi, and possesses the gift of tactile telepathy, the supernatural talent to read all the thoughts and memories a person has ever had with a single touch.Aro is described as having almost translucent skin and throughout the series it is repeatedly compared to onion skin. When Bella first meets him, she feels compelled to touch his skin to verify if it is smooth and cold like Edward's or powdery like chalk. His hair is very long and jet black. When he moves, it appears as though he's floating. His eyes are a milky red color that has a tendency to unsettle people.
He lives in Volterra with his other two 'brothers' Marcus and Caius, and has a Wife called Sulpicia. There have been many speculations concerning the death of is sister Didyme and whether he had a part in it, but none have been confirmed.
In New Moon, it appears that Aro is one of the more honest and merciful of his brothers, but in Breaking Dawn he is seen to be much of the opposite (thanks to Maggie).

Caius
Caius is one of the three ancients who lead the Volturi, a guard of Vampires who serve as the law in their world and reside in Volterra, Italy. In Chapter 22 of New Moon by Stephenie Meyer - Caius is described as having very pale skin that is almost translucent; hair that is shoulder-length and as white as his skin; and when he moves, he appears to be floating rather than walking (as do all the Volturi leaders.) In addition, Caius wears a long, hooded, black cloak - identical to the ones worn by Aro and Marcus, the remaining leaders. In the upcoming movie - The Twilight Saga: New Moon - as of now, Caius is to be played by Jamie Campbell-Bower - widely known for his role as Anthony in Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
*Possible Plot Spoiler Alert! Out of the three leaders, Caius takes on the role of "bad cop" - pushing that Bella not be allowed to leave Volterra alive. The vampire community has many laws which all revolve around one thing - above all, "keep the secret". Due to the fact that Bella is aware of the vampire existence, the law states that she must either become one or be silenced... permanently.

Marcus
Marcus is one of three leaders that control the Italian Vampire coven that live in the city of Volterra better known as the Voltouri in the Twilight Saga. Little is known of his past except that like his co-leaders Marcus is among the oldest Vampires in existence having been around for approximately five thousand years and along with Caius and Aro he is considered royalty among their kind.
He has an ability which is to be able to see and sense the loyalty/emotional bonds an individual or group of beings has with others they associate with. This is useful especially if the Voltouri want to select new members for the guard from an established coven or if they are dealing with a rival. All he would need do is look at them to know right away which members of the coven are loyal to the leaders, could be convinced to surrender peacefully and betray their clan. Following this the Guard can then plan an attack with minimal risk of failure.
After losing his mate Didyme who was also Aro's sister Marcus exists almost like a statue except when he feeds from humans brought to the Voltouri's lair and although Aro was the one to give the order for her to die. Marcus continued to stay with Caius and Aro with each new century right up to the present day. By the time he sees Bella and Edward in New Moon, Marcus reacts little to what happens or is being discussed only saying a few words now and again.
