The Swan Family

The most interesting family on the earth!

Isabella (Bella) Swan

Picture
Isabella (Bella) Marie Swan is the daughter of Charlie Swan and Renee Dwyer in Forks, Washington. Her parents were married out of high school and had Bella at a very young age. Charlie and Renee later divorced after 6 months of marriage and Renee moved to Pheonix, Arizona, from not being able to stand living in Forks any longer, eaking newborn Bella with her. Every summer Bella would come and visit her father in the little cloudy town of Forks where her parents had lived.

Bella started going to Forks for only a few weeks when she was a young teen because she did not like it there. When Renee married Phil, Bella felt she was holding her mom back from being able to travel with her baseball playing husband so she decided to move to Forks to live with Charlie so her mom could be happy.

This is where she met and fell deeply in love with the famous Edward Cullen. After discovering Edwards and his families secret, she decided to stick with him as they grow ever more attached to one another. Bella, being known to attract disasters, constantly keeps Edward busy saving her life from day to day events.

Bella is described as being very fair-skinned and plain with dark brown hair and chocolate brown eyes and a heart-shaped face. She has a wide forehead, large, wide-spaced eyes, and prominent cheekbones. She is five foot four inches tall but not muscular and weighs 110 pounds. She also has sturdy fingernails because she has a nervous habit of biting them.

Bella eventually gets pregnant and married with Edward Cullen. They alwyas are deeply in love. Most of the guys att Forks High School "like" Bella. Mike, Tyler, and Eric all ask her to the spring dance. She rejects all of them to hang out with Edward in Seattle, Washington. She goes to prom with a broken leg with the imfamous Edward Cullen escorting her. She also doesn't know that her new friend Jacob Black, and her new boyfriend Edward Cullen are complete enimies. Jacob is a warewolf and Edward is a vampire. Earlier on before Bella was in Forks Edwards family invades Jacob's families property evere since then they havn't gotten along.

In New Moon, Bella turns 18 on the 13th September, she receives a camera from Charlie (her father) and a scrapbook from Renee (her mother). She takes these presents despite her vehement arguing and the many times before her birthday where she'd said she didn't want to celebrate it. Then after school she goes to the Cullen's home with Edward where they throw a little party for her, though she argues.

While Bella unwraps her presents, she gets a paper cut which releases a single drop of blood resulting in Jasper the Cullen newest to the 'vegetarian' lifestyle attempting to pounce on Bella to drink her blood but Edward pushes her out of the way and saves her though she falls onto more glass which basically cuts the skin on her arms open and bleeds further. Carlisle stitches her wounds up and Bella goes home without seeing Jasper again.

This event leads to Edward leaving Bella telling her that he doesn't love her anymore and to take care of herself, resulting in her going into a zombie-like state as described in the book. She does the bare minimum to remain alive and relatively well though she loses a lot of weight in the 4 months subsequent to Edward leaving with the rest of the Cullen family. However, in January she 'wakes up' after Charlie tries to send her home, back with Renee in Phoenix, Arizona.

Chief Charlie Swan

Picture
Charlie Swan is Chief of the Police Department in Forks, Washington and father of Bella Marie Swan - his child with Renée Dwyer, his high-school sweetheart, and at-the-time wife. The pair married pretty much while they were both "fresh out of high school", which is also about the time that Charlie filled a position in the Forks Police Department. Their marriage, however, lasted 6 months. Sweethearts though they might have been -- and they do say that opposites attract -- while Renée was always the type to want to do things, go places, and see people -- lots of them -- Charlie's main goals in life are to be there for people (hence the occupation), including his daughter, AND his ex-wife. His biggest hobbies are fishing and watching televised sports, and he harbors no small disdain for big cities, even smaller big cities like nearby Seattle.

So, when Renée began to long for higher society life than the barely-a-city of Forks was able to provide, and Charlie did not want to leave, Renée ultimately did, leaving Charlie behind, and taking Bella with her, first to Califorina, and then, to Phoenix, Arizona, which is where Bella did most of her growing up. Charlie, however, decided not to follow, but to remain right where they would be able to find him whenever they needed him, and where the citizens of Forks needed him, too, as they decided to promote him in their police department all the way up to become the Chief, giving Charlie just that much less incentive to stray.

For years, Charlie would not only spend time with them both on the phone, but, would insist on spending weeks at a time with Bella during the summer, who would travel to Forks to be with him. Unfortunately, due to Bella's growing familiarization with places hot and sunny, and her growing disdain for all things wet and cold, and the fact that Forks, Washington is perhaps the rainiest, most overcast city in the contiguous United States (of America), those summer visits eventually came to an end.

Nevertheless, when Renée finally decided to remarry when Bella was seventeen to a much more prospective soul-mate named Phil, whose career choice of being a professional athlete gave him more than ample opportunity to take Renée travelling with him quite often... the relationship with Bella was still strong enough that Charlie immediately reopened his doors to his daughter, and she immediately went to live with him, welcoming her back into his life, in many ways, as though Bella had never left.

Being more a man of action than of words, he feels himself always to be on the brink of failure as a father, and even moreso as Bella's protector. He often feels guilty for leaving Bella alone so much. Only-too-keenly aware of how tenuous some relationships can be, he often agonizes over Bella's romantic life -- at first because he can't see Bella even trying to have one, and then, because of her choice.

Before Bella appears to be getting together with the guy of her dreams, Edward Cullen, Charlie can't say enough about the guy or his adopted family to convince his fellow townsfolk that they are really every bit as decent and good as they appear to be. Even Charlie's best friend in the whole wide world, Billy Black, Council Chief for a nearby tribe of indiginous Americans, for some reason that remains unfathomable to Charlie, can't even begin to say anything nice about them. Charlie feels Billy is being absolutely ridiculous, as does Billy's son Jacob.

When Edward and Bella begin dating, however, Charlie begins to see past Edward's good, and begins to focus only on the things about Edward that appear to him to be bad, and begins to offer Bella his advice about it, commensurately. He is, after all, Bella's most nearby parent, and he takes that role quite seriously. But, he also refuses to overstep the bounds of his authority in any way, to try to get Bella to look at Edward any differently, so, it cannot be said that he doesn't entirely disapprove of Edward, much like any father, just that he doesn't like the prospects of picking up the peices when Bella's heart, which for some unknown reason happens way too much.

The more serious this relationship becomes, the more prominently Charlie begins to advise against it, but, being a man more of action than of words, he is always there to "pick up the peices" whenever he can see that Bella's heart gets broken, the time being over something that happend during her very first date with Edward, which was so bad that she actually ran away from Forks, back to Phoenix, for a while. But Bella comes back to Forks, and against Charlies advice, continues seeing see Edward.

Then, Bella's heart really broke when the whole Cullen family left Forks, and Edward didn't even give her a forwarding address. Bella fell into a depression lasting for months, and, being beyond Charlie's capabilities as her parent to help her heal from it, Charlie finally sees no other choices than to either send her back to live with her mom, or to institutionalize her.

So, when Bella suddenly snaps out of the darkest depth of that depression and begins to form a relationship with his best buddy's son, Jacob Black, Charlie can hardly contain his joy, even to the point that -- despite being Bella's parent, and despite being the a law-enforcement officer, and despite himself -- he actually finds ways to encourage Jacob stepping a bit over the line as far as some things like sexual-assault can go. Admittedly, it is only barely stepping over that line, so, it's difficult to say what Charlie would say about anything further, even with the only son of his very best friend in the whole wide world. And, only because Charlie firmly believes that Jacob would be good for bella, better, at least than Edward.

Nevertheless, when Edward comes back, and Bella instantly chooses Edward over Jacob, despite any advice Charlie can give her, Charlie loves Bella enough to let her know that he would never want her to run away or elope or anything, but that he would do whatever it took to get to be the guy to give her away at her wedding, a lot of that being Charlie's inability to say enough about the rest of the Cullen Family, especially Edward's adopted sister, Alice, whom he believes to be not only a great, but also a good influence in both Bella's and Edward's rather rock-the-boat shaky romantic life.

Charlie is also caring and loving and strong enough that when Bella develops an unknown-to-him illness that leaves her ghostly pale, and with weirded-out eyes, and gives him a toddler-sized biological granddaughter, all within the space of a few weeks after her marriage, he chooses to do what he can to be there for them, then, as well, despite how weirded out he, himself, might feel.

It is also about that point in his life that he begins to develop the second potentially romantic relationship in his life, with a rather-recently widowed, not-too-distant relative of his best friend Billy, Sue Clearwater, who happens to be just that much more understanding of Bella's and Renesmee's weirdnesses, than Charlie ever wants to be.

Another thing to note, is that Charlie's mind does not work the way most people's minds do. Edward Cullen, a rather talented mind reader, has encountered exactly one mind in his life that he cannot read without her help, and that is Bella's. Charlie's mind works somewhat similarly to that. Whereas most people's minds are like radio stations that can only with some effort be tuned out, Charlie's mind is almost always silent, usually only emitting signals connected to rather strong emotions, and only then is when any words appear enough for Edward to read. So, Edward believes that Bella inherited her mental silence from Charlie, genetically, and that it somehow combined with whatever Bella inherited or learned from Renée, to become just that much more developed than Charlie's.

Renee Swan

Picture
Renée Swan is Bella's mother and Charlie's ex-wife. She and Charlie got married just out of high school and had Bella soon after. Renée grew to hate Forks, (particularly the weather) divorced Charlie and moved somewhere warmer, first California then Arizona.

Renée is somewhat scatterbrained and impulsive, she once went skydiving, temporarily forgetting that she's terrified of heights. It is often shown that Bella was the more responsible of the two, she took care of her mother.

Sometime in Bella's mid-teens met minor league baseball player Phil Dwyer and eventually married him. At the start of Twilight Phil is moving around the country searching for a team to sign with. This led to Bella's decision to move back to Forks.

Renée and Phil eventually move to Jacksonville, Florida. Renée automatically assumes that Bella will want to come back and live with her, but soon finds out that her daughter would rather stay with Edward and Charlie in Forks.

In Eclipse, Bella and Edward visit Renée and in Florida. Edward subsequently discovers that Renée, though child-like, is incredibly insightful. She figures out the dynamic of their relationship almost immediately, but it doesn't make any sense to her.

Later on in Breaking Dawn, Renée comes to Forks to help Alice and Esme organize Bella's wedding. She instantly becomes friends with Bella's sister and mother-in-law to be. When Bella gives birth to Renesmee and is transformed into a vampire, Charlie and Bella make a mutual decision to keep it from Renée. They both realize she wouldn't be able to handle it.

*Note: Bella Swan will still be here, but after Breaking Dawn is in theaters, Bella Cullen will be added to the Cullen Clan tab. Thank you for understanding.
